With the draft coming in the next few weeks and pro days starting to come to an end, the draft prospects have pretty much solidified what their draft position is by now. Here is what I think the Eagles will wind up doing come draft day.
ROUND 1- Christian McCaffrey RB Stanford- I’ve been wavering back and forth on if Dalvin Cook were here, would I take him or McCaffrey? After pondering I decided to go with McCaffrey, although Cook is immensely talented, I just worry about Cook’s fumbling problems. McCaffrey can come in right away and provide Carson with another weapon at RB and at WR as well. Christian and Carson could be the faces of the franchise for years to come.
ROUND 2- Sidney Jones CB Washington- If Sidney Jones actually does make it to this point, I will be ecstatic. Jones recently came out and said that he thinks he will be able to play this season coming up. Teams may shy away from him in the first as they want a guy thats a sure instant impact player, but Jones could be the steal the Eagles need, while getting a top 10 talent in the 2nd round at a position of major need.
ROUND 3- Cameron Sutton CB Tennessee- Filling out the other side of the CB position by picking Sutton here. Sutton and Jones will come in and start right away at CB, there may be some growing pains to start out, but I think these guys will wind up being a very formidable duo for years to come.
ROUND 4- Davon Godchaux DT LSU- The replacment for Bennie Logan from LSU, is another LSU DT that came out early. Godchaux has a lot of the same qualities that Logan has, so replacing Logan could be a lot easier than we thought, and also gets to play next to an all world DT in Fletcher Cox.
ROUND 4 (from CLE)- Dawuane Smoot DE Illinois- So the Eagles have to hope that Vinny Curry will come back to his 2015 form and earn the money that he was paid next year, so incase he doesn’t then some depth behind him and Brandon Graham is desperately needed. Smoot comes in and will compete with former 1st round pick, Marcus Smith II, for playing time.
ROUND 5- Eddie Jackson S Alabama- Jackson has really seen his draft stock plummet since the beginning of last year, especially after getting hurt. Jackson is a nice risk/reward pick here and also could be someone to replace Jaylen Watkins as the third safety on the field with teams going with a lot more 4-2-5 on defense to defend against the pass.
ROUND 6- Jalen Reeves-Maybin LB Tennessee- With the likely departure of Mychal Kendricks coming at some point, he will need to be replaced, even though he played very little snaps. The Eagles go with a more of a 4-2-5 defense of lately with only Jordan Hicks and Nigel Bradham on the field at LB. So Reeves-Maybin is a nice guy to bring in for situations that they would use 3 LBs.
ROUND 7- Marquel Lee LB Wake Forest- Lee comes in and will provide some nice depth at LB behind Hicks and Bradham. Joe Walker and Najee Goode are solid backups also, but Lee will solidify the LB core.
