2017 NFL Mock Draft (Version 2.0)(Post Free Agency and Combine)

Well the big free agents are off the market now, and the combine has come and gone, with Pro Days still to come. Team’s needs have changed also after free agency. Here is my current projections of the 2017 Draft.

1- Cleveland Browns- Myles Garrett DE/LB Texas A&M- The only QB that seems to be projected to be a franchise type of QB right now is Mitch Trubisky from UNC. The Browns also have the 12th pick in the first round as well so it’s possible they could use that pick on a QB. Garrett is flat out the best player in this draft, and the Browns need talent period, there is slim picking on the team.

2- San Francisco 49ers- Solomon Thomas DE/LB Stanford The Niners seem to have their bridge QB in place in Brian Hoyer, which could leave them to draft the BPA in the first round, then get a developmental QB in the 2nd round. Thomas is a stud pass rusher that could come in and make an immediate impact. The 49ers are switching to a 4-3 defense so they need the pieces to put in place.

3- Chicago Bears- Johnathan Allen DT/DE Alabama- Although I’m not convinced, Mike Glennon seems to be the pick to be the franchise QB for the Bears (as of now). So the Bears will need to pick the BPA with this pick. Allen comes in right away and provides a major boost on the defensive line for Da’ Bears.

4- Jacksonville Jaguars- Malik Hooker S Ohio State-  Tashaun Gipson didn’t impress in his first year with the Jags. Malik Hooker looks like an Ed Reed clone in my opinion. The Jags could be loaded in the secondary for years to come with Hooker, Ramsey, Bouye and Church. Hooker is the BPA here.

5- Tennessee Titans (from LAR)- Jamal Adams S LSU- Adams is a great fit here for Tennessee as he is one of the best players available still and also will fill a position of need for the Titans as well. Remind me of a mix of Landon Collins and Eric Berry. I think the Titans would be okay with that.

6- New York Jets- Marshon Lattimore CB Ohio State- Without Darrelle Revis, the Jets now have a gaping hole at CB. (Along with many other spots). An argument could be made for a QB, RB or WR here, but Lattimore is the BPA available here at a position of need for the Jets.

7- Los Angeles Chargers-  DeShaun Watson QB Clemson- The Chargers need to start looking at life after Philip Rivers. DeShaun Watson could come in and learn behind a Pro Bowl QB for a couple of years and then come in and take over for him, while also likely coming in to a new stadium as well.

8- Carolina Panthers- Leonard Fournette RB LSU- If the Panthers can grab Fournette here expect them to be back in the race with the Falcons for the NFC South title. Cam Newton had a down year, and also has his LT now in Matt Kalil. Leonard Fournette brings them back to being a bruising running team that will team with Jonathan Stewart to keep him fresh.

9- Cincinnati Bengals- Derek Barnett DE Tennessee- The Bengals had trouble getting to the passer this year, and bringing in a guy like Barnett will help rejuvenate guys like Dunlap and Atkins to their Pro-Bowl form. Michael Johnson is better suited to be a situational pass rusher.

10- Buffalo Bills- Corey Davis WR Western Michigan– Davis comes in with Sammy Watkins in Buffalo to create a prolific 1-2 punch for Tyrod Taylor to throw to. Corey Brown comes in as a nice slot receiver also, Taylor has no excuse now with all of these weapons at his expense.

11– New Orleans Saints- Reuben Foster LB Alabama- The Saints could definitely use help on defense, and to get a guy like Reuben Foster to be the leader of the defense for years to come would be a great pickup here. He will come in and start right away at MLB and let Craig Roberston move to the outside.

12-Cleveland Browns- Mitch Trubisky QB North Carolina- The Browns wind up pulling the trigger on the franchise QB in Trubisky. He can come in and compete with Brock Osweiler and Cody Kessler for the starting QB job right away. One would hope that he would win the competition between the two of them!

13- Arizona Cardinals- Jabrill Peppers S/LB Michigan- The Cards get a guy that can help fill 2 needs for the future. Peppers can come in and play Safety right away and take over for Antoine Bethea eventually, or he could wind up coming in and helping at LB and playing beside Deone Bucannon. The Cards like players that they can shift all over the field, and Peppers is that kind of guy.

14- Philadelphia Eagles (from MIN)– Dalvin Cook RB Florida State- Just like that! The Eagles have weapons all over the field for Carson Wentz now! Cook is a stud RB that will come in right away and make an impact. He can do everything and is the prototypical type of runner at the NFL today. Watch out for the Eagles offense next year!

15- Indianapolis Colts- Ryan Ramczyk OT Wisconsin- The Colts need help along the offensive line to keep Andrew Luck healthy next year. Ramczyk can come in and start right away at RT for the Colts and will help the Colts become a more potent offense yet again.

16- Baltimore RavensTaco Charlton DE/LB Michigan- Terrell Suggs will be 35 at the beginning of next season, so a replacement will be needed for him sooner or later. Charlton can come in and replace Elvis Dumervil on the opposite side of him though. He could either slim down and play OLB or bulk up a little bit and be a 3-4 DE.

17- Washington Redskins- Marlon Humphrey CB Alabama- Bashaud Breeland was beaten mercifully last year as opponents targeted him so much with Josh Norman on the other side. Humphrey can come in and help solidify the other side of the field at CB and help sure up Washington’s secondary for years to come as well.

18- Tennessee Titans- O.J. Howard TE Alabama- With Delanie Walker getting up there in age, a future replacement will be needed for him. Howard is the BPA at this point in the draft, and also gives Marcus Mariota another weapon in the endzone as well. Howard and Walker at TE will be a major threat for defenses next year. Watch out for the Titans to breakout next year.

19- Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Cam Robinson OT Alabama- Jameis Winston could use some better security along the offensive line than he already has. Cam Robinson is the prototype RT in this league that could also play on the inside if needed. Robinson can come in and compete at RT with Demar Dotson.

20- Denver Broncos- Garrett Bolles OT Utah- Bolles comes in and solidies an offensive line last year that had problems. He could come in and start at LT or inside at Guard right away if he bulks up a little bit before next year. A definite need for the Broncos here that needs to be addressed.

21- Detroit Lions- Haason Reddick LB Temple- Reddick has skyrocketed up draft boards of lately and has really become a top 25 prospect in this draft. Reddick can come in and replace the departed DeAndre Levy at LB and provide the Lions with a playmaking LB for years to come. He could also move fellow Temple LB Tahir Whitehead to the outside while Reddick mans the middle of the defense.

22- Miami Dolphins- Forrest Lamp OG Western Kentucky- Help is needed on the interior of the Dolphins offensive line badly. The Dolphins got their franchise LT in Laremy Tunsil last year, but now they need to sure up the inside to make sure Ryan Tannehill can stay up-right come next year, they might’ve actually stood a chance in the playoffs with Tannehill.

23- New York Giants- Zach Cunningham LB Vanderbilt- The depth at LB for the Giants is extremely sub-par at best. Cunningham comes in and could be a stud at MLB for the Giants for years to come, and gives them a nice playmaker in the middle of their defense. Offensive line is also an option here, but there isn’t any of value worth picking this high right now.

24- Oakland Raiders- Christian McCaffrey RB Stanford- Why not give Derek Carr another weapon? Oakland will run to the podium to select McCaffrey to get their Reggie Bush in his prime type of player here. Just give the ball to him and he’ll take it. The Raiders offense will be extremely explosive next year with the pick of McCaffrey.

25- Houston Texans- DeShone Kizer QB Notre Dame- Well Texans fans must be ecstatic that Brock Osweiler is gone, but can’t be ecstatic they had to give away a 2nd round pick to just get rid of him. The Texans cut their losses and wind up drafting their QB of the future here with this pick. They hope they can get Tony Romo for a couple of years so Kizer can come in and learn behind him to eventually replace him and become the franchise guy.

26- Seattle Seahawks- Tre’Davious White CB LSU- The Seahawks get their guy that will make the Seahawks secondary yet the best in the NFL again. White is a perfect compliment to Sherman on the other side. Watch for the Hawks’ to be in the race for the Lombardi again next year.

27- Kansas City Chiefs- John Ross WR Washington- If the Chiefs add another weapon to their offense, they could be a legitimate threat to take down the Patriots in the AFC next year. Ross gives them another speedy WR on the outside to go along Maclin and Hill.

28- Dallas Cowboys- Takkarist McKinley DE UCLA- The number one need for the Cowboys is to find someone that can get to the passer other than DeMarcus Lawrence, who is solid, but not one to wreak much havoc. McKinley is a speed rusher that can come in and provide the pass rush they need right away.

29- Green Bay Packers- Gareon Conley CB Ohio State- Conley is a sleeper this late in the first round because his counterpart Marshon Lattimore is a bonafide top 10 prospect. Conley comes in and provides the Pack with a legit CB for years to come. Ladarius Gunter and Quintin Rollins weren’t quite cutting it as shown in last year’s NFC Championship.

30- Pittsburgh Steelers- Charles Harris DE/LB Missouri- Harris comes in and provides a nice compliment to James Harrison at OLB, who will need to be replaced eventually also. Harris can be a situational pass rusher right away which the Steelers could definitely use.

31- Atlanta Falcons- Carl Lawson DE Auburn- The Falcons could use help along the defensive line and pass rush to go with Vic Beasley, there really isn’t any other threat to get to the QB. They clearly could’ve used that in the Super Bowl, but then there’s that guy named Tom Brady.

32- New Orleans Saints (from NE)– Jalen “Teez” Tabor CB Florida- The Saints keep loading up on defense after getting this pick from NE after the Brandin Cooks trade. Tabor ran a slow 40 time at the combine, which made his stock fall a bit, but the Saints take Tabor here in hoping they finally solve their problems at CB.
